Level 1 vs. Level 2 EV Chargers: What Your Electrical Panel Determines
Not all home charging setups are the same, and the right choice depends on your electrical system as much as your vehicle.
Level 1 chargers plug into a standard 120-volt household outlet. They require no dedicated circuit and no major electrical work, but they charge slowly, often taking overnight or longer to replenish a depleted battery. For drivers with short daily commutes and no urgent charging needs, Level 1 may be sufficient.
Level 2 chargers are a different story. They require a dedicated 240-volt circuit and charge significantly faster, typically adding 20 to 30 miles of range per hour. For most EV owners, Level 2 is the practical choice for daily home use.
Whether a Level 2 charger is feasible comes down to your home’s available electrical panel capacity. A panel already near its load limit may not support an additional high-draw circuit without an upgrade first. We evaluate panel capacity as part of every estimate, so you know exactly what your installation involves before any work begins.

EV Charger Installation in Salt Lake City
Licensed Electric Car Charger Installation for Homes & Businesses Since 1977
We’ve been installing electric vehicle charging equipment since 2019, across both large commercial facilities and individual homes. That range matters: the same team that sizes a multi-port business charging system also sizes a single home charger against the property’s existing electrical capacity. Every project gets evaluated individually, not templated.
LMS Lighting, Electrical & Signs serves residential and commercial properties throughout Salt Lake City and the Wasatch Front. Whether you’re adding a Level 2 charger at home or building out a commercial EV charging station for employees or customers, we assess your electrical system first and build the installation plan around what’s actually there.

Residential & Commercial EV Charger Installation: How Our Approach Differs
Residential and commercial EV charger installations involve different electrical demands, different site conditions, and different goals. We handle both, and we approach each one on its own terms.
Residential EV Charger Installation
For homes, we integrate the new charger into your existing electrical setup. That starts with assessing your panel’s available capacity, determining the right circuit for a Level 2 EVSE (electric vehicle supply equipment), and completing the installation to code. If your panel needs attention before a charger can be added safely, we’ll tell you upfront.
Commercial EV Charger Installation
For businesses, multifamily properties, and commercial facilities, we design charging installations that work with the facility’s power system without disrupting existing operations. We’ve handled both small-scale commercial additions and larger multi-port charging setups, and we’re familiar with Salt Lake City’s local requirements for commercial electrical work.
Free estimates are available for all electric car charger installation projects, with no travel fees within our primary Salt Lake Valley service area.
